Course benefits:
This course prepares candidates to sit the examination for the Certificate
in Data Management Essentials, which can be counted towards the Information
Systems Examination Board (ISEB) Business Systems Development (BSD)
Diploma.
Who should attend:
This course is aimed at all staff who wish to gain the ISEB BSD Certificate
in Data Management Essentials. This may include:
- Data Management practitioners
- IT/IS managers
- Business managers
Prerequisites:
There are no prerequisites for this course but it is expected that
participants will be active in data management. Prospective participants
with extensive experience may like to refer to our Data
Management Essentials course.
What you will learn:
Holders of the ISEB BSD Certificate in Data Management Essentials
should be able to:
- act as a member of a Data Management team within an organisation
- implement an industry standard 'best practice' approach to their
Data Management work
- understand the roles and skills required in database administration,
data administration and repository administration
- contribute to Technology Direction Evaluation
- aid in the construction of a Data Charter
- practise basic data administration, database administration and
repository administration skills
- develop procedures for managing an organisation's corporate data
resource
What you will cover:
- The role and authority of a Data Management function
- Data Architecture concepts
- Project-level and corporate data modelling
- Data quality, naming, replication, integrity, security and recovery
- Database Administration, including physical data design, DBMS
selection, managing the DBMS, performance measurement and tuning,
distributed DBMS issues, and client/server issues
- The Scope of the Data Management Function, including 'Structured
Data' operational systems, Data Warehousing, OLAP and Data Mining
systems, Multi-media systems, Internet and Intranet-based systems,
and Object management
How you will learn:
The course will finish with a one hour examination. Candidates who
are awarded a pass for the examination are awarded:
- the ISEB Business Systems Development: Certificate in Data Management
Essentials, and
- 2 'credits' towards achieving an ISEB Business Systems Development
Diploma
