Course benefits:

This workshop addresses the needs of experienced trainers who need to enhance their course development and delivery skills. Attendance on this workshop will enable participants to undertake challenging training assignments with confidence and deliver greater benefits to their audience and the organisation.

Who should attend:

This is a very practical workshop requiring participants to bring examples of materials to the course and, following a demonstration delivery, to modify and practice their delivery in line with action plans suggested by the workshop facilitator and other workshop attendees.

Prerequisites:

Before attending this workshop, participants should have attended a Train the Trainer course and have gained experience of developing and delivering training sessions and training programmes.

What you will learn:

On successful completion of the course, attendees will be able to:

  • Use exercises and simulations to enhance learning

What you will cover:

  • Session 1 will examine and make recommendations about training material using a checklist of criteria that includes:
    • Fitness for Purpose
    • Sequence of Delivery
    • Concept Count
    • Visual Impact
    • Aids to Remembering
    • Uniformity
    • Formatting
    • Adherence to Standards
    • Use of Colour
    • Use of Clip Art and other Illustrations
  • Session 2 examines the subject of how people learn and what the trainer can do to enhance the learning experience for all concerned. The following subjects are introduced and practiced in this session:
    • How people learn - the learning styles questionnaire
    • Addressing the visual, auditory and kinaesthetic preferences of the learners
    • Learning curves - what they are and how to prepare for and deal with a group having significantly different rates of learning
    • Specifying the learning objectives
  • In session 3, and after changes have been made to the materials, learners will deliver training for a second time when their personal skills and style of delivery will be critiqued by the facilitator and other workshop attendees. The following aspects of delivery style and technique will be examined:
    • Session Structure

    • Introduction and Motivation
    • Middle
    • End
    • Delivery Style
    • Personal Style
    • Handling of The Trainees
    • Handling Questions and Questioning Techniques

  • Session 4 is about advanced training techniques and how these can be used to motivate the learner and to enhance the retention of what has been taught. These techniques include:
    • Simulations
    • Problem Oriented Delivery
    • Motivating the Trainee
    • Ice Breakers
    • Use of Knowledge Tests
    • Team Teaching
